Psalm 87

1 His foundation is in the holy mountains.
1 Her foundations are upon the | holy | hills: ||
the Lord loveth the gates of Sion more than | all the | 3 dwellings of | Jacob. ||
2 The Lord loveth the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob.
† 2 Very | excel•lent | things ||
are spoken of | thee, thou | 3 city of | God. ||
3 Glorious things are spoken of thee, O city of God. Selah.
3 I will make mention of Egypt and Babylon, among | them that | know me. ||
4 Behold, Philistia also; * and Tyre, with Ethiopia; | lo, in | Sion • were they | born. ||
4 I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to them that know me: behold Philistia, and Tyre, with Ethiopia; this man was born there.
5 And of Zion it shall be said, This and that man was born in her: and the highest himself shall establish her.
5 Yea, of Sion it shall be reported, this one and | that one • were | born in • her; ||
3 and | the Most | High shall | stablish • her. ||
6 The Lord shall count, when he writeth up the people, that this man was born there. Selah.
† 6 The 3 Lord | shall re- | cord it, ||
when he writeth up the peoples; | lo, in | Sion • were they | born. ||
7 As well the singers as the players on instruments shall be there: all my springs are in thee.
7 The singers also and trumpeters | shall make | answer: ||
All my fresh | springs | are in | thee. ||

About the Pointing

The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
