Psalm 25
1 Unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul.
1 Unto thee, O Lord, will I 3 lift | up my | soul; ||
my | God, • I have | put my | trust in • thee: ||
O let me 3 not | be con- | founded, ||
neither let mine | ene•mies | triumph | over • me. ||
2 O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.
2 For all they that hope in thee shall 3 not | be a- | shamed; ||
but such as transgress without a | cause • shall be | 3 put to con- | fusion. ||
3 Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.
3 Show me thy ways, O Lord, and | 3 teach me thy | paths. ||
4 Lead me | 3 forth in thy | truth, and | learn me: ||
4 Shew me thy ways, O Lord; teach me thy paths.
for thou art the | God of • my sal- | vation; ||
in thee hath been my | hope | all the • day | long. ||
5 Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
5 Call to remembrance, O Lord, thy tender mercies, and thy | loving- | kindness•es, ||
3 which | have been | 3 ever of | old. ||
6 Remember, O Lord, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.
6 O remember not the sins and of- | fences • of my | youth; ||
but according to thy mercy think thou up- | on me, • O | Lord, • for thy | goodness. ||
7 Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness' sake, O Lord.
7 Gracious and | righteous • is the | Lord; ||
therefore will he teach | sinners | in the | way. ||
8 Good and upright is the Lord: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
8 Them that are meek shall he | guide in | judgment; ||
and such as are gentle, | them • shall he | learn his | way. ||
9 The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way.
9 All the paths of the Lord are | mer•cy and | truth, ||
unto such as keep his | 3 covenant | and his | testi•monies. ||
10 All the paths of the Lord are mercy and truth unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
10 For thy | 3 Name's sake, O | Lord, ||
be merciful unto my | sin; for | it is | great. ||
11 For thy name's sake, O Lord, pardon mine iniquity; for it is great.
11 What man is he that | 3 feareth the | Lord? ||
him shall he | teach • in the | way that • he shall | choose. ||
12 What man is he that feareth the Lord? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose.
12 His soul shall | dwell at | ease, ||
and his | seed • shall in- | 3 herit the | land. ||
13 His soul shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.
13 The secret of the Lord is a- 3 mong | them that | fear him; ||
and | he will | 3 show them his | cove•nant. ||
14 The secret of the Lord is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
14 Mine eyes are ever looking | 3 unto the | Lord; ||
for he shall | pluck my | feet • out of the | net. ||
15 Mine eyes are ever toward the Lord; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.
15 Turn thee unto me, and have | mer•cy up- | on me; ||
for I am | deso•late, | and in | miser•y. ||
16 Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.
16 The sorrows of my | heart • are en- | larged: ||
O | bring thou • me | 3 out of my | troubles. ||
17 The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.
17 Look upon my ad- | versi•ty and | miser•y, ||
and for- | give me | all my | sin. ||
18 Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
18 Consider mine enemies, how | many • they | are; ||
and they | bear a | tyran•nous | hate a•gainst me. ||
19 Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.
19 O keep my | soul, • and de- | liver • me: ||
let me not be confounded, for I have | put my | trust in | thee. ||
20 O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
20 Let perfectness and righteous | dealing | wait up•on me; ||
for my | hope hath | been in | thee. ||
21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
† 21 De- | liver | Isra•el, ||
O | God, • out of | all his | troubles. ||
22 Redeem Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.
About the Pointing
The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
