Psalm 76

1 In Judah is God known: his name is great in Israel.
1 In Judah is God known; * his Name is | great in | Isra•el. ||
2 At Salem is his tabernacle, | and his | 3 dwelling in | Sion. ||
2 In Salem also is his tabernacle, and his dwelling place in Zion.
3 There brake he the arrows of the bow, the shield, and the sword, and the battle. Selah.
3 There brake he the | arrows • of the | bow, ||
the | shield, the | sword, • and the | battle. ||
4 Thou art more glorious and excellent than the mountains of prey.
4 Thou art glorious in might, when thou comest from the | hills • of the | robbers. ||
5 The proud are robbed, they have slept their sleep; * and all the men whose | hands were | mighty have • found | nothing. ||
5 The stouthearted are spoiled, they have slept their sleep: and none of the men of might have found their hands.
6 At thy rebuke, O God of Jacob, both the chariot and horse are cast into a dead sleep.
6 At thy rebuke, O | God of | Jacob, ||
both the | 3 chariot and | horse are | fallen. ||
7 Thou, even thou, art to be feared: and who may stand in thy sight when once thou art angry?
7 Thou, even | thou • art to be | feared; ||
and who may | 3 stand in thy | sight when • thou art | angry? ||
8 Thou didst cause judgment to be heard from heaven; the earth feared, and was still,
8 Thou didst cause thy judgment to be | heard from | heaven; ||
the earth | trembled, | and was | still, ||
9 When God arose to judgment, to save all the meek of the earth. Selah.
9 When God a- | rose to | judgment, ||
and to 3 help | all the | 3 meek upon | earth. ||
10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise thee: the remainder of wrath shalt thou restrain.
10 The fierceness of man shall | 3 turn to thy | praise; ||
and the | fierceness • of them | shalt • thou re- | frain. ||
11 Vow, and pay unto the Lord your God: let all that be round about him bring presents unto him that ought to be feared.
11 Promise unto the Lord your God, and keep it, all ye that are | round a- | bout him; ||
bring presents unto | him that | ought • to be | feared. ||
12 He shall cut off the spirit of princes: he is terrible to the kings of the earth.
12 He shall refrain the | 3 spirit of | princes, ||
and is wonderful a- | mong the | kings • of the | earth. ||

About the Pointing

The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
