Psalm 28

1 Unto thee will I cry, O Lord my rock; be not silent to me: lest, if thou be silent to me, I become like them that go down into the pit.
1 Unto thee will I cry, O Lord, my strength: * | think no | scorn of • me; ||
lest, if thou make as though thou hearest not, * I become like | 3 them that go | down in•to the | pit. ||
2 Hear the voice of my supplications, when I cry unto thee, when I lift up my hands toward thy holy oracle.
2 Hear the voice of my humble pe- | titions, • when I | cry unto • thee; ||
when I hold up my hands towards the | mercy•seat of thy | holy | temple. ||
3 Draw me not away with the wicked, and with the workers of iniquity, which speak peace to their neighbours, but mischief is in their hearts.
3 O pluck me not away, * neither destroy me with the ungodly and | wicked | doers, ||
which speak friendly to their neighbours, but im- | agine | mischief • in their | hearts. ||
4 Give them according to their deeds, and according to the wickedness of their endeavours: give them after the work of their hands; render to them their desert.
4 Reward them ac- | cording • to their | deeds, ||
and according to the | wickedness • of their | own in- | ventions. ||
5 Because they regard not the works of the Lord, nor the operation of his hands, he shall destroy them, and not build them up.
5 Recompense them after the | 3 work of their | hands; ||
pay them | that they | have de- | served. ||
6 Blessed be the Lord, because he hath heard the voice of my supplications.
6 For they regard not in their mind the works of the Lord, * nor the oper- | ation • of his | hands; ||
therefore shall he break them | down, and | not • build them | up. ||
7 The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusted in him, and I am helped: therefore my heart greatly rejoiceth; and with my song will I praise him.
7 3 Praised | be the | Lord; ||
for he hath heard the | 3 voice of my | 3 humble pe- | titions. ||
8 The Lord is their strength, and he is the saving strength of his anointed.
8 The Lord is my | 3 strength, and my | shield; ||
my heart hath | 3 trusted in | him, and • I am | helped; ||
9 Save thy people, and bless thine inheritance: feed them also, and lift them up for ever.
therefore my heart danceth for joy, and in my | song • will I | praise him. ||
9 The Lord is my strength, and he is the | 3 wholesome de- | fence of • his a- | nointed. ||
10 O save thy people, and give thy blessing unto | thine in- | heri•tance: ||
feed them, and | set them | up for | ever. ||

About the Pointing

The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
