Psalm 47
1 O clap your hands, all ye people; shout unto God with the voice of triumph.
1 O clap your hands to- | gether, • all ye | peoples: ||
O sing unto | God • with the | voice of | melo•dy. ||
2 For the Lord most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
2 For the Lord is | high, and • to be | feared; ||
he is the great | 3 King upon | all the | earth. ||
3 He shall subdue the people under us, and the nations under our feet.
3 He shall subdue the | peoples | under • us, ||
and the | nations | under • our | feet. ||
4 He shall choose our inheritance for us, the excellency of Jacob whom he loved. Selah.
4 He shall 3 choose | out an | heritage • for us, ||
even the excellency of | Jacob, | whom he | loved. ||
5 God is gone up with a shout, the Lord with the sound of a trumpet.
5 God is gone up with a | merry | noise, ||
and the | Lord • with the | sound • of the | trump. ||
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
6 O sing praises, sing praises | 3 unto our | God; ||
O sing praises, sing | praises | 3 unto our | King. ||
7 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
7 For God is the | King of • all the | earth: ||
sing ye | 3 praises with | under- | standing. ||
8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness.
8 God | reigneth • over the | nations; ||
God | sitteth up•on his | holy | seat. ||
9 The princes of the people are gathered together, even the people of the God of Abraham: for the shields of the earth belong unto God: he is greatly exalted.
9 The princes of the peoples are joined unto the people of the | God of | Abra•ham; ||
for God, which is very high exalted, * doth defend the | earth, • as it | were • with a | shield. ||
About the Pointing
The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
