Psalm 53
1 The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. Corrupt are they, and have done abominable iniquity: there is none that doeth good.
1 The foolish body hath said in his heart, There | is no | God. ||
2 Corrupt are they, and become abominable in their wickedness; * there is | none that | doeth | good. ||
2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God.
3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
3 God looked down from heaven upon the | 3 children of | men, ||
to see if there were any that would under- | stand, and | seek • after | God. ||
4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God.
4 But they are all gone out of the way, * they are altogether be- | come a- | bomin•able; ||
there is also | none that • doeth | good, • no not | one. ||
5 There were they in great fear, where no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth against thee: thou hast put them to shame, because God hath despised them.
5 Are not they without under- | standing that • work | wicked•ness, ||
eating up my people as if they would eat bread? * they | have not | called up•on | God. ||
6 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, and Israel shall be glad.
6 They were afraid where | no fear | was; ||
for God hath broken the bones of him that besieged thee; * thou hast put them to con- | fusion, be•cause | God • hath de- | spised them. ||
7 O that the salvation were given unto | Israel • out of | Sion! ||
O that the Lord would deliver his | people | 3 out of cap- | tivi•ty! ||
8 Then should | 3 Jacob re- | joice, ||
and | Isra•el | should be • right | glad. ||
