Psalm 85

1 Lord, thou hast been favourable unto thy land: thou hast brought back the captivity of Jacob.
1 Lord, thou art become gracious | 3 unto thy | land; ||
thou hast turned a- | way • the cap- | tivi•ty of | Jacob. ||
2 Thou hast forgiven the iniquity of thy people, thou hast covered all their sin. Selah.
2 Thou hast forgiven the of- | 3 fence of thy | people, ||
and | covered | all their | sins. ||
3 Thou hast taken away all thy wrath: thou hast turned thyself from the fierceness of thine anger.
3 Thou hast taken away | 3 all thy dis- | pleasure, ||
and turned thyself from thy | wrathful | indig- | nation. ||
4 Turn us, O God of our salvation, and cause thine anger toward us to cease.
4 Turn us then, O | God our | Saviour, ||
3 and | let thine | anger | cease • from us. ||
5 Wilt thou be angry with us for ever? wilt thou draw out thine anger to all generations?
5 Wilt thou be dis- | pleased at • us for | ever? ||
and wilt thou stretch out thy wrath from | one • gener- | ation • to an- | other? ||
6 Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee?
6 Wilt thou not turn again, and quicken us, * that thy | people • may re- | joice in • thee? ||
7 Show us thy mercy, O Lord, and | grant us | thy sal- | vation. ||
7 Shew us thy mercy, O Lord, and grant us thy salvation.
8 I will hear what God the Lord will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly.
8 I will hearken what the Lord | God will | say; ||
for he shall speak peace unto his people, and to his saints, that they | turn • not a- | gain • unto | foolish•ness. ||
9 Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land.
9 For his salvation is | 3 nigh them that | fear him; ||
that | 3 glory may | 3 dwell in our | land. ||
10 Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other.
10 Mercy and | truth are • met to- | gether: ||
3 righteous- | ness and | peace have | kissed each • other. ||
11 Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven.
11 Truth shall | flourish • out of the | earth, ||
and | righteous•ness hath | 3 looked down from | heaven. ||
12 Yea, the Lord shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase.
12 Yea, the Lord shall show | loving- | kindness; ||
and our | land shall | give her | increase. ||
13 Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.
13 Righteousness shall | go be- | fore him, ||
and shall di- | rect his | going • in the | way. ||

About the Pointing

The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
