Psalm 3
1 Lord, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
1 Lord, how are they in- | creased that | trouble • me! ||
many are | they that | rise a- | gainst me. ||
2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
2 Many one there be that | 3 say of my | soul, ||
There is no | help • for him | in his | God. ||
3 But thou, O Lord, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
3 But thou, O | Lord, art • my de- | fender; ||
thou art my worship, and the | lifter | 3 up of my | head. ||
4 I cried unto the Lord with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
4 I did call upon the | Lord • with my | voice, ||
and he | heard me • out of his | holy | hill. ||
5 I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the Lord sustained me.
5 I laid me | down and | slept, ||
and rose up a- | gain; • for the | Lord sus- | tained me. ||
6 I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
6 I will not be afraid for ten | thousands • of the | people, ||
that have set themselves a- | gainst me | round a- | bout. ||
7 Arise, O Lord; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
7 Up, Lord, and | help me, • O my | God, ||
for thou smitest all mine enemies upon the cheek-bone; * thou hast | 3 broken the | teeth of • the un- | godly. ||
8 Salvation belongeth unto the Lord: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
8 Salvation be- | longeth • unto the | Lord; ||
and thy | blessing • is up- | on thy | people. ||
About the Pointing
The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
