Psalm 82

1 God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.
1 God standeth in the congre- | 3 gation of | princes; ||
3 he | is a | Judge a•mong | gods. ||
2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.
2 How long will 3 ye | give wrong | judgment, ||
and ac- | cept the | persons • of the un- | godly? ||
3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.
3 Defend the | poor and | father•less; ||
see that such as are in | need • and ne- | cessi•ty have | right. ||
4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.
4 Deliver the | 3 outcast and | poor; ||
3 save | them • from the | hand of • the un- | godly. ||
5 They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.
5 They know not, neither do they understand, * but walk on | still in | darkness: ||
all the foundations of the | earth are | out of | course. ||
6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.
6 I have | said, • Ye are | gods, ||
and ye are all the | children | of the • Most | Highest. ||
7 But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.
7 But ye shall | die like | men, ||
and | fall like | 3 one of the | princes. ||
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.
8 Arise, O God, and | judge • thou the | earth; ||
for thou shalt take all | 3 nations to | thine in- | heri•tance. ||

About the Pointing

The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
