Psalm 66
1 Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands:
1 O be joyful in | God, • all ye | lands; ||
sing praises unto the honour of his | Name; • make his | praise • to be | glor•ious. ||
2 Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.
2 Say unto God, O how wonderful art | 3 thou in thy | works! ||
through the greatness of thy power shall thine | ene•mies bow | down • unto | thee. ||
3 Say unto God, How terrible art thou in thy works! through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies submit themselves unto thee.
3 For all the | world shall | worship • thee, ||
sing of | thee, and | praise thy | Name. ||
4 All the earth shall worship thee, and shall sing unto thee; they shall sing to thy name. Selah.
4 O come hither, and behold the | works of | God; ||
how wonderful he is in his | doing • toward the | 3 children of | men. ||
5 Come and see the works of God: he is terrible in his doing toward the children of men.
5 He turned the | sea into • dry | land, ||
so that they went through the water on foot; * | there did | we re- | joice there•of. ||
6 He turned the sea into dry land: they went through the flood on foot: there did we rejoice in him.
6 He ruleth with his power for ever; * his | eyes be•hold the | nations: ||
and such as will not believe shall | not be | able • to ex- | alt them•selves. ||
7 He ruleth by his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah.
7 O praise our | God, ye | peoples, ||
and make the | 3 voice of his | praise • to be | heard; ||
8 O bless our God, ye people, and make the voice of his praise to be heard:
8 Who holdeth our | soul in | life; ||
and | suffereth • not our | feet to | slip. ||
9 Which holdeth our soul in life, and suffereth not our feet to be moved.
9 For thou, O | God, hast | proved us; ||
thou also hast | tried us, | like as | silver is • tried. ||
10 For thou, O God, hast proved us: thou hast tried us, as silver is tried.
10 Thou broughtest us | 3 into the | snare; ||
and laidest | 3 trouble up- | on our | loins. ||
11 Thou broughtest us into the net; thou laidst affliction upon our loins.
11 Thou sufferedst men to ride over our heads; * we went through | fire and | water, ||
and thou broughtest us | out in•to a | wealthy | place. ||
12 Thou hast caused men to ride over our heads; we went through fire and through water: but thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place.
12 I will go into thine house with burnt-offerings, * and will | 3 pay thee my | vows, ||
which I promised with my lips, and spake with my | mouth, when | 3 I was in | trouble. ||
13 I will go into thy house with burnt offerings: I will pay thee my vows,
13 I will offer unto thee fat burnt-sacrifices, with the | 3 incense of | rams; ||
I will | offer | bullocks • and | goats. ||
14 Which my lips have uttered, and my mouth hath spoken, when I was in trouble.
14 O come hither, and hearken, all | ye that • fear | God; ||
and I will tell you 3 what | he hath | done • for my | soul. ||
15 I will offer unto thee burnt sacrifices of fatlings, with the incense of rams; I will offer bullocks with goats. Selah.
15 I called unto him with my mouth, and gave him | praises • with my | tongue. ||
16 If I incline unto wickedness with mine | heart, the | Lord • will not | hear me. ||
16 Come and hear, all ye that fear God, and I will declare what he hath done for my soul.
17 I cried unto him with my mouth, and he was extolled with my tongue.
17 But God hath heard me; and considered the | 3 voice of my | prayer. ||
18 Praised be God, who hath not cast out my | prayer, nor | turned his | mercy • from me. ||
18 If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me:
19 But verily God hath heard me; he hath attended to the voice of my prayer.
20 Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer, nor his mercy from me.
About the Pointing
The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
