Psalm 120

1 In my distress I cried unto the Lord, and he heard me.
1 When 3 I | was in | trouble, ||
I | called up•on the | Lord, • and he | heard me. ||
2 Deliver my soul, O Lord, from lying lips, and from a deceitful tongue.
† 2 Deliver my | soul, O | Lord, ||
from lying | lips, and • from a de- | ceitful | tongue. ||
3 What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?
3 What reward shall be given or done unto | thee, thou • false | tongue? ||
even mighty and sharp | 3 arrows, with | hot • burning | coals. ||
4 Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper.
4 Woe is me, that I am con- | strained to • dwell with | Meshech, ||
and to have my habi- | tation a•mong the | tents of | Kedar! ||
5 Woe is me, that I sojourn in Mesech, that I dwell in the tents of Kedar!
† 5 My soul hath | long | dwelt ||
among them that are | ene•mies | unto | peace. ||
6 My soul hath long dwelt with him that hateth peace.
6 I | 3 labour for | peace; ||
but when I speak unto them thereof, they | make them | 3 ready to | battle. ||
7 I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

About the Pointing

The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
