Psalm 19
1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.
1 The heavens declare the | glor•y of | God; ||
and the | firma•ment | 3 showeth his | handy•work. ||
2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.
2 One day | 3 telleth an- | other; ||
and one night | certi- | 3 fieth an- | other. ||
3 There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.
3 There is neither | speech nor | language; ||
but their | voices • are | heard a- | mong them. ||
4 Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,
4 Their sound is gone | out • into | all lands; ||
and their | words in•to the | ends • of the | world. ||
5 Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.
5 In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun; * which cometh forth as a | bridegroom • out of his | chamber, ||
and rejoiceth as a | 3 giant to | run his | course. ||
6 His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.
6 It goeth forth from the uttermost part of the heaven, * and runneth about unto the | end of • it a- | gain; ||
and there is | nothing | hid • from the | heat there•of. ||
7 The law of the Lord is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.
7 The law of the Lord is an undefiled law, con- | 3 verting the | soul; ||
the testimony of the Lord is sure, and giveth | wisdom | 3 unto the | simple. ||
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the Lord is pure, enlightening the eyes.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, and re- | joice the | heart; ||
the commandment of the Lord is pure, and | giveth | light un•to the | eyes. ||
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the Lord are true and righteous altogether.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, and en- | 3 dureth for | ever; ||
the judgments of the Lord are true, and | righteous | alto- | gether. ||
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than | much fine | gold; ||
sweeter | 3 also than | honey, • and the | honey•comb. ||
11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.
11 Moreover, by them is thy | servant | taught; ||
and in keeping of them | there is | great re- | ward. ||
12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.
12 Who can tell how | oft • he of- | fendeth? ||
O cleanse thou 3 me | from my | secret | faults. ||
13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.
13 Keep thy servant also from presumptuous sins, * lest they | 3 get the do- | minion • over me; ||
so shall I be undefiled, and | innocent • from the | great of- | fence. ||
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer.
14 Let the words of my mouth, and the medi- | tation • of my | heart, ||
be alway acceptable in thy sight, * O | Lord, my | strength and • my re- | deemer. ||
About the Pointing
The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
