Psalm 60

1 O God, thou hast cast us off, thou hast scattered us, thou hast been displeased; O turn thyself to us again.
1 O God, thou hast cast us out, and | scattered • us a- | broad; ||
thou hast also been displeased: * O | turn thee • unto | us a- | gain. ||
2 Thou hast made the earth to tremble; thou hast broken it: heal the breaches thereof; for it shaketh.
2 Thou hast moved the | land, • and di- | vided • it: ||
heal the | sores there- | of, • for it | shaketh. ||
3 Thou hast shewed thy people hard things: thou hast made us to drink the wine of astonishment.
3 Thou hast showed thy people | heavy | things; ||
thou hast given us a | drink of | deadly | wine. ||
4 Thou hast given a banner to them that fear thee, that it may be displayed because of the truth. Selah.
4 Thou hast given a token for | such as | fear thee, ||
that they may | 3 triumph be- | cause • of the | truth. ||
5 That thy beloved may be delivered; save with thy right hand, and hear me.
5 Therefore were thy be- | 3 loved de- | livered: ||
3 help | me with • thy | 3 right hand, and | hear me. ||
6 God hath spoken in his holiness; I will rejoice, I will divide Shechem, and mete out the valley of Succoth.
6 God hath | spoken • in his | holi•ness, ||
I will rejoice, and divide Shechem, and 3 mete | out the | 3 valley of | Succoth. ||
7 Gilead is mine, and Manasseh is mine; Ephraim also is the strength of mine head; Judah is my lawgiver;
7 Gilead is mine, and Ma- | 3 nasseh is | mine; ||
Ephraim also is the strength of my head; * | Judah | is my | law•giver; ||
8 Moab is my washpot; over Edom will I cast out my shoe: Philistia, triumph thou because of me.
8 Moab is my wash-pot; over Edom will I 3 cast | out my | shoe; ||
Phil- | istia, | be thou | glad of • me. ||
9 Who will bring me into the strong city? who will lead me into Edom?
9 Who will lead me into the strong city? * who will | bring me • into | Edom? ||
10 Hast not thou cast us out, O God? * wilt not thou, O | God, go | 3 out with our | hosts? ||
10 Wilt not thou, O God, which hadst cast us off? and thou, O God, which didst not go out with our armies?
11 Give us help from trouble: for vain is the help of man.
11 O be thou our | help in | trouble; ||
for | vain • is the | help of | man. ||
12 Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies.
12 Through God will we | do great | acts; ||
for it is | he that • shall tread | down our | ene•mies. ||

About the Pointing

The text of the Coverdale Psalter follows the 1928 American Book of Common Prayer. The pointing, suitably adapted, is taken from Charles Macpherson, Edward C. Bairstow, and Percy C. Buck, The English Psalter (Novello & Co., 1925).
