Psalm 71
1 In thee, O Lord, do I put my trust: let me never be put to confusion.
1 In thee, O Lord, have I | put my | trust; ||
let me | never • be | 3 put to con- | fusion, ||
but rid me and de- | liver me • in thy | righteous•ness; ||
incline thine | ear • unto | me, and | save me. ||
2 Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me.
2 Be thou my stronghold, whereunto I may | 3 alway re- | sort: ||
thou hast promised to help me, * for thou art my | 3 house of de- | fence, • and my | castle. ||
3 Be thou my strong habitation, whereunto I may continually resort: thou hast given commandment to save me; for thou art my rock and my fortress.
3 Deliver me, O my God, out of the | hand of • the un- | godly, ||
out of the hand of the un- | 3 righteous and | cruel | man. ||
4 Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man.
4 For thou, O Lord God, art the | 3 thing that I | long for: ||
thou art my | hope, | even • from my | youth. ||
5 For thou art my hope, O Lord God: thou art my trust from my youth.
5 Through thee have I been holden up ever since I was born: * thou art he that took me out of my | mother's | womb: ||
my | praise • shall be | 3 alway of | thee. ||
6 By thee have I been holden up from the womb: thou art he that took me out of my mother's bowels: my praise shall be continually of thee.
6 I am become as it were a | monster • unto | many, ||
3 but | my sure | trust • is in | thee. ||
7 I am as a wonder unto many; but thou art my strong refuge.
7 O let my mouth be | 3 filled with thy | praise, ||
that I may sing of thy glory and | honour | all the • day | long. ||
8 Let my mouth be filled with thy praise and with thy honour all the day.
8 Cast me not away in the | time of | age; ||
forsake me | not • when my | strength | faileth • me. ||
9 Cast me not off in the time of old age; forsake me not when my strength faileth.
9 For mine enemies | speak a- | gainst me; ||
and they that lay wait for my | soul • take their | 3 counsel to- | gether, ||
10 For mine enemies speak against me; and they that lay wait for my soul take counsel together,
saying, | 10 3 God hath for- | saken • him; ||
persecute him, and take him, | 3 for there is | none • to de- | liver • him. ||
11 Saying, God hath forsaken him: persecute and take him; for there is none to deliver him.
11 Go not | far from • me, O | God; ||
my | God, | haste • thee to | help me. ||
12 O God, be not far from me: O my God, make haste for my help.
12 Let them be confounded and perish that are a- | gainst my | soul; ||
let them be covered with shame and dis- | honour • that | seek to • do me | evil. ||
13 Let them be confounded and consumed that are adversaries to my soul; let them be covered with reproach and dishonour that seek my hurt.
13 As for me, I will patiently abide alway, * and will praise thee | more and | more. ||
14 My mouth shall daily speak of thy righteousness and sal- | vation; • for I | know no | end there•of. ||
14 But I will hope continually, and will yet praise thee more and more.
15 My mouth shall shew forth thy righteousness and thy salvation all the day; for I know not the numbers thereof.
15 I will go forth in the | strength of the • Lord | God, ||
and will make | mention • of thy | 3 righteousness | only. ||
16 I will go in the strength of the Lord God: I will make mention of thy righteousness, even of thine only.
16 Thou, O God, hast taught me from my youth 3 up | until | now; ||
therefore will I | 3 tell of thy | wondrous | works. ||
17 O God, thou hast taught me from my youth: and hitherto have I declared thy wondrous works.
† 17 Forsake me | not, O | God, ||
in mine old | age, when | 3 I am gray- | headed, ||
until I have showed thy strength unto | this • gene- | ration, ||
and thy power to all | 3 them that are | yet • for to | come. ||
18 Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not; until I have shewed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to every one that is to come.
18 Thy righteousness, O | God, is • very | high, ||
and great things are they that thou hast done: * O | God, • who is | like • unto | thee! ||
19 Thy righteousness also, O God, is very high, who hast done great things: O God, who is like unto thee!
19 O what great troubles and ad- | versities • hast thou | showed me! ||
and yet didst thou turn and refresh me; * yea, and broughtest me from the | deep • of the | earth a- | gain. ||
20 Thou, which hast shewed me great and sore troubles, shalt quicken me again, and shalt bring me up again from the depths of the earth.
20 Thou hast | brought me to • great | honour, ||
and | comforted • me on | ever•y | side: ||
21 Thou shalt increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side.
21 Therefore will I praise thee, and thy faithfulness, O God, * playing upon an | instru•ment of | music: ||
unto thee will I sing upon the | harp, • O thou | Holy • One of | Isra•el. ||
22 I will also praise thee with the psaltery, even thy truth, O my God: unto thee will I sing with the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel.
22 My lips will be | glad • when I | sing unto • thee; ||
and so will my | soul whom | 3 thou hast de- | livered. ||
23 My lips shall greatly rejoice when I sing unto thee; and my soul, which thou hast redeemed.
23 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness | all the • day | long; ||
for they are confounded and brought unto | shame that | seek to • do me | evil. ||
24 My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long: for they are confounded, for they are brought unto shame, that seek my hurt.
About the Pointing
